What Is The ETPL Anyway

Instead of being based in just one nation, matches will be spread across Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, with six city based franchises taking part, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam.

The inaugural season runs from August 26 to September 20, with the opening match kicking things off in Dublin. In total, the season will feature 33 matches, which is a solid, proper length for a debut competition trying to establish itself.

Big Names Already Signing On

Ashwin isn’t walking into this alone. He joins a genuinely stacked list of international stars already confirmed for the league, including Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, Steve Smith, Tim David, and Mitchell Marsh. Du Plessis himself isn’t just playing either, he’s both captaining and co-owning Rotterdam Dockers, lining up alongside fellow South Africans Klaasen, Donovan Ferreira, and Anrich Nortje, plus Australia’s Mitchell Owen, who has been in excellent form for Washington Freedom in MLC 2026 this season.

There’s a Bollywood angle running through this league too, which is a fun detail for Indian fans following along. Abhishek Bachchan is a co-owner of the entire league, while actor John Abraham co-owns the Rotterdam Dockers franchise specifically. On the cricket ownership side, Glenn Maxwell is a co-owner of Belfast Wolves alongside his playing commitments, and of course Rahul Dravid owns the Dublin franchise that Ashwin has now joined.
