A Correction On Lions’ Recent Form

My earlier preview of the Lions vs North West Dragons match did not anticipate this result clearly enough. North West Dragons won that match, chasing down Lions’ 205/5 to reach 207/4 in 19.2 overs, so Lions arrive here off the back of a defeat rather than the narrow edge that earlier preview gave them.

Recent Form

Garden Route Badgers have won three of their last five. They beat Limpopo in their most recent match, chasing 128 to reach 131/5 in 19.3 overs, and beat Eastern Cape Inland before that, posting 182/4. Their two defeats in that stretch came against Limpopo and Eastern Cape Inland in separate matches.

Lions have won two of their last five. They beat Dolphins in their most recent win, posting 202/4, but lost to North West Dragons in their most recent match, posting 205/5 before North West chased it down with 207/4.

This fixture has very little recent history. The only tracked meeting between these two sides was the 5th match of the 2021 CSA T20 Cup, which Lions won, chasing 129 to reach 132/6 in 19.5 overs.

Janneman Malan vs Lions’ bowling attack: Malan’s top order experience gives Garden Route Badgers a real focal point, and a strong start from him would set the tone for the innings.

Leo Sadler vs Lions’ bowling attack: As the squad’s overseas allrounder, Sadler offers Garden Route Badgers a point of difference with both bat and ball.

Ross Coetzee vs Garden Route Badgers’ top order: Coetzee’s allround skills give Lions a route to early wickets or a steady batting contribution depending on how the match unfolds.
