Matchweek: 1

Kick-off Time: 5:00 PM IST
Venue: Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru
The 2026-27 Indian Super League kicks off with Bengaluru FC hosting SC Delhi at home, the same evening FC Goa host Chennaiyin FC in the night window. Bengaluru get first pick of the fixture list, opening their season in front of their own crowd.
The Rivalry
SC Delhi are not a new club, even if the name is unfamiliar to some fans. The franchise joined the league as Hyderabad FC in 2019-20 and won the ISL title in 2021-22. The ownership group rebranded the club and moved it to New Delhi ahead of the 2025-26 season. Their first match under the new name and city was against Bengaluru FC, and it did not go their way: Bengaluru won that meeting 2-0 on February 15, 2026. SC Delhi will want a different result the second time around, this time away from home.
Bengaluru FC: Team News
Pep Muñoz takes charge of his first full season at the helm after joining midway through 2025-26. He has described a thorough scouting process behind the club’s recruitment, with Manuel de Iriondo brought in to add midfield experience, Menno Koch and Sandro Sakho added at centre back, Mihailo Perović signed as a centre forward, and Borja Martínez arriving as a versatile attacking option.
Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Chinglensana Singh, and Nikhil Poojary remain the senior figures Muñoz relies on to set standards for the squad. He has also pointed to a group of younger players, Soham Varshneya, Vineeth Venkatesh, Shivaldo Singh, and Kevin Singh, as first team options rather than squad fillers, with Kevin Singh singled out for his preseason form on the wing.
SC Delhi: Team News
SC Delhi have built their overseas contingent around Rodriguinho up front, David Richard Ndayishimiye in central midfield, Duván Viáfara and Nduka Junior at centre back, and Juan Peña in the attacking midfield role. Lamgoulen Hangshing captains an Indian core that includes Clarence Fernandes, Joseph Sunny, Alan Saji, and goalkeeper Vishal Yadav. Tomasz Tchórz is listed as head coach for the club; SportsPinch could not independently confirm this is his assignment specifically for the 2026-27 campaign, so treat it as the club’s most recently reported appointment rather than a confirmed fact for this match.
Bengaluru FC vs SC Delhi Head To Head
Bengaluru FC and SC Delhi have met once under the current club name, with Bengaluru winning 2-0 at home in February 2026. That is the only confirmed meeting between the two sides in their current identities.
Key Storylines
A new era for both benches. Muñoz gets his first full season in charge of Bengaluru FC, while SC Delhi are still finding their footing in a new city after the Hyderabad FC rebrand. Both coaches will want a strong start to set the tone for the campaign.
Chhetri’s latest chapter. Sunil Chhetri remains part of the Bengaluru FC squad, and any involvement from him in a season opener at home draws attention regardless of role.
SC Delhi’s rebuild. A title winning core under the Hyderabad FC name has been reshaped under new ownership and a new city. How quickly the squad gels away from home will say a lot about where this version of the club stands.

Bengaluru FC vs SC Delhi Fantasy Team: Small Leagues
This is the season opener, so there is no 2026-27 match form to go on. These picks are built from each club’s current preseason squad list and known roles rather than recent scores, and final lineups are confirmed only at kickoff.
Goalkeeper: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (Bengaluru FC)
Defenders: Menno Koch (Bengaluru FC), Chinglensana Singh (Bengaluru FC), Lamgoulen Hangshing (SC Delhi), Duván Viáfara (SC Delhi)
Midfielders: Manuel de Iriondo (Bengaluru FC), Juan Peña (SC Delhi), David Richard Ndayishimiye (SC Delhi)
Forwards: Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC), Mihailo Perović (Bengaluru FC), Rodriguinho (SC Delhi)
Captain: Rodriguinho. As SC Delhi’s central striker, he is the player most likely to be directly involved in a shot or a goal regardless of how the rest of his side settles in on opening day. Vice captain: Mihailo Perović, brought in specifically as Bengaluru’s centre forward and the likely focal point of their attack at home.
Bengaluru FC vs SC Delhi Fantasy Team: Grand Leagues
For a grand league team, the differentials come from squad depth and new signings who carry less ownership but still have a route to minutes.
Goalkeeper: Vishal Yadav (SC Delhi)
Defenders: Sandro Embalo (Bengaluru FC), Nikhil Poojary (Bengaluru FC), Clarence Fernandes (SC Delhi), Manoj Mohammed (SC Delhi)
Midfielders: Kharon Subba (SC Delhi), Mohammed Azhar (SC Delhi), Thokchom Diamond Singh (SC Delhi)
Forwards: Borja Martínez (Bengaluru FC), Joseph Sunny (SC Delhi), Alan Saji (SC Delhi)
Captain: Borja Martínez. A versatile attacking addition for Bengaluru who carries far less ownership than Chhetri or Perović but still has a route to minutes in an advanced role. Vice captain: Juan Peña, a lower owned alternative to Rodriguinho in a side that is likely to create chances through him in midfield.
Prediction
Bengaluru FC should start as favorites at home, backed by a settled coach going into his first full season and a crowd that will be loud for the opener. SC Delhi arrive with a reshaped squad and the same test they failed in their last meeting with this opponent. Expect Bengaluru FC to open their campaign with a win, though a club finding its feet in a new city can still make a game of it on the night.
