What Is The Global Super League
The Global Super League is a T20 tournament played entirely in Guyana, bringing together franchises from different countries and different domestic T20 leagues around the world for a short, high intensity competition. Every match is played at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, and the format is simple. Five teams play each other once in a round robin stage, for 10 matches total. The team that finishes on top of the table after the round robin goes straight through to the final. The teams that finish second and third play each other in a qualifier, and the winner of that match joins the top team in the final.
Last Year’s Champions
Guyana Amazon Warriors, the tournament’s own host franchise, won the 2025 edition, and they did it in some style. In the final at Providence, they beat Rangpur Riders, the team that had actually won the very first edition back in 2024, by 32 runs.
Batting first, Guyana posted 196 for 4, built around a 121 run partnership between Johnson Charles and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Charles retired out on 67 to give someone else a chance to bat, and Gurbaz followed up with 66 off just 38 balls. Romario Shepherd then smashed an unbeaten 28 off only 9 balls in the closing overs to push the total well clear.
Rangpur never recovered from a rocky start in the chase, slipping to 32 for 3 inside the powerplay. Dwaine Pretorius picked up 3 wickets to lead the Guyana bowling effort, with Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie taking two each, and Rangpur were eventually bowled out for 164. Gurbaz was named Player of the Match for his innings, while Imran Tahir, who also captained the side at 46 years old, was named Player of the Series after finishing with 14 wickets across the tournament.
What’s Changed For 2026
Guyana Amazon Warriors return as defending champions, but Rangpur Riders are not part of this year’s five team lineup. Perth Scorchers have taken a spot instead, arriving after winning last season’s Big Bash League in Australia, the same pathway that brought Hobart Hurricanes into last year’s edition. The other three teams, Desert Vipers, Lahore Qalandars and San Francisco Unicorns, round out the field. This year’s tournament runs from July 23 to August 1, with a $1 million prize pool on the line.
Perth Scorchers Bring In Hosein And Moqim
West Indies left arm spinner Akeal Hosein and Pakistan wrist spinner Sufyan Moqim have both signed on with Perth Scorchers as overseas players for the tournament. Regular captain Ashton Turner leads the squad, alongside Test quick Jhye Richardson, all rounder Aaron Hardie and spinner Ashton Agar.
The squad also includes New Zealand batter Mark Chapman, South African batter Dian Forrester, West Indian Ackeem Auguste and Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Usman Khan, plus former Australia international D’Arcy Short, who has never played for Scorchers before despite his long history with Western Australia domestic cricket. Western Australia’s general manager of high performance, Kade Harvey, said the players involved were keen to test themselves in conditions very different from what they usually face. Simon Katich will coach the side at the tournament, with regular coach Adam Voges currently committed to Trent Rockets at the Hundred in England.
